Inspired by Studio Ludo, a landscape architecture firm based in Philadelphia, Gardens For Life created play kits for children during spring and summer 2020. Many children were stuck indoors during the lockdowns, and play helps kids cope in times of crisis.
Erica used her design skills and play expertise to create eight different kits that encouraged open-ended play and creativity. Recognizing that parents were likely overwhelmed, the kits were designed to be self-directed by children. Everything needed for the activity was provided in the kit, and instructions were provided in English, Spanish, and step-by-step drawings. Topics included planting seeds, making clay boats, and learning about birds.
