A family in suburban Boston wanted their preschool-age daughter to have opportunities for imaginative play, exploring natural materials, and whole-body movement. The backyard is surrounded by woods, and Gardens For Life saw potential in a circle of trees just beyond the lawn.
Gardens For Life designed a flexible space that can be changed over time according to their daughter’s needs and interests. A play kitchen, fire ring, and fort-building materials provide endless opportunities for dramatic play. Stumps, boulders, and a slackline encourage climbing and balancing.
The family loves playing together and invites friends over to make “cupcakes” using natural materials!

Thanks to Erica’s creativity, thorough planning, and follow-through, we have an amazing outdoor nature playspace that is fun for the whole family! Erica listened carefully to our needs and used her design talent to create a space that inspires our daughter to be active and use her imagination. Our daughter adapts the space to make it her own, and enjoys “baking” using natural materials. When she’s reluctant to go outside, we remind her of the nature playspace and she’s eager to go out!
